My painting practice is genuine and serious. I chose to devote myself to it not only because it was my youthful dream, but because my work was consistently well received during my studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. I received two commendations from professors of painting: one after the first semester (a formal committee review) and another at the end of my studies. Both are recorded in my student index and remain available for anyone who wishes to see them. I completed my master’s degree in painting conservation in 1997.

The honesty and seriousness of my painting lie, among other things, in the fact that:
- It is grounded in my own theoretical reflections.
Some of these thoughts appear in my texts. I was able to pursue this direction because, in my fourth year at the Academy, I received the highest mark — 5.5 — for a short essay in art theory (a text that, unfortunately, has since been lost). - It is rooted in real life.
Certain events shaped the direction of my work and made the paintings what they are. The method is, in a sense, borrowed from aikido, which I practised in my youth and loved deeply, but had to abandon after a shoulder injury. The principle is simple: accept the force of the opponent rather than struggle against it. If, for example, my “opponent” turned out to be the lack of opportunity to train as a portrait painter, I did not insist on becoming one. Instead, I chose landscapes, flowers, and vedute. - It is also decorative — and I do not hide this.
My paintings are accessible both to those who say they “don’t know much about art” and to those who are genuinely interested in painting. For the latter, I included in my online beginner’s painting course a catalogue from my solo exhibition in Warsaw in 2002, where a professor’s note about my work can be read. - My gouache paintings can also be viewed through the lens of my own stylistic modes.
I paint in a calm style, an expressive style, an oil‑painting style, a detail‑focused style, and even a scribble style. - All my gouache works meet the criteria of lucid art.
